Everything but the Ducts
Do you need a less expensive, simple way to cool your home without ripping your walls apart? Do you heat your home with a hot water boiler or electric baseboard? Then a ductless air conditioning system might be the right choice for you.
A ductless air conditioning system, otherwise known as a mini-split system, provides air conditioning and/or heating. All of this work is accomplished without using central air ducts.
One of the largest benefits of having a ductless air conditioning unit is in the name – ductless. So, without having to create large opening in your walls, this system is less expensive and easy to install. It also includes the ability to cool one room or an entire wing of your home with a single wall unit generating 9,000 BTUs or higher. A multi-system features up to 4 units that generate up to 42,000 BTUs divided between them. This is perhaps one of the most energy efficient air conditioners on the market.
The multi-split system is made up of three main components – the condenser/compressor (or heat pump) unit that is fixed to an outdoor stable surface, an indoor wall-mounted unit that contains the “air handler,” and a one-touch remote control. The outdoor unit ensures the indoor unit functions almost silently. These systems are available to operate with one, two or three indoor air handlers, depending on the chosen model.
How it Works
After turning on the ductless air conditioner, the compressor in the outdoor unit, refrigerant and coils and fan in the wall mounted unit begin working together to create cool air. Electricity powers the indoor unit fan to blow and spread cooled air throughout the room in which the unit is installed. The heat in the room air is pumped out through the indoor unit and refrigerant lines.
Overall, ductless is the way to go when looking at heating/cooling your home using a highly energy efficient product without having to install the ductwork.
